Nostalgic Notes
SPRINT BRIEF- Nostalgic Notes is a desing that aims to increase sense of belonging of Turkish dementia patients in Dutch care facilities through multisensory experiences.

As an immigrant Turkish designer in the Netherlands, I have experienced communcation difficulties due to cultural and language differences. Day by day, this issue became more obvious not just for me but for immigrant elderly people, epsecially with dementia.
1st version!
To reduce this problem I have designed Nostalgic Notes. with the multisensory design, it helps the people with dementia(PwD) in care facilities to reminisce their memories with their carers and eachother.
For dementia patients, a sense of belonging is a must since it can extensively impact their general well-being and quality of life. Cognitive decline and memory loss are common symptoms of dementia, which can make people feel confused, alone, and anxious. Building a feeling of belonging lays the groundwork for familiarity, social support, and emotional support. A strong sense of belonging benefits cognitive performance and may even slow the rate at which cognitive decline develops.
Hearing and smell senses are pivotal in enhancing the sense of belonging, especially for individuals with dementia.
These senses are potent channels for: 1. Triggering Memories 2. Creating Familiar Environments 3. Facilitating Communication 4. Emotional Resonance 5. Personalized and Cultural Soundscapes 6. Multi-Sensory Experiences
These channels are included in the design of Nostalgic Notes, where the carers can control the effect of reminiscing by scheduling and planning the experience. Each patient has their file, and it also has the notes from the music therapist. Based on this, a personal playlist is created for patients. These playlists/songs can be run at with different scents, creating a moment for the patients to reminisce by bringing memories. The carers can plan this experience through the website. The physical product consists of two speakers and a diffuser. This will be placed in the patient's room where the understanding can happen in the planned moments.
